Do you want curtains or a blind, or maybe both.

Will they get wet or damp with steam.

What are you going to hang them from.

Take a look at the check list below then further down for the full details.

  • What style of bathroom do you want?
  • Curtains or a blind?
  • What kind of shower curtain?
  • Pulling the whole theme together

What style of bathroom do you want?

Maybe you have totally remodeled your bathroom and are looking to add the finishing touches.

Maybe you want some new curtains and accessories. Just to breath new life into the room.

First thing to decide is the look will it be contemporary...lots of chrome finishes clean sleek lines. Tiled floors and walls.

Perhaps more traditional wood floor, painted or papered walls. roll top bath brass fittings.

Important Point

So pick your theme...write it down on a post it note NOW. Then when buying your bathroom curtains and accessories stick to the theme.

  • Pick you style
  • Pick your color/s
  • Pick your Finishes...chrome or brass

We all start with a good plan then you start looking around for the bits and pieces you need. Next thing before you know whats happened you have strayed off your theme. You have bought a whole mixed bag of goodies that don't sit right together.

Curtains or a blind?

If your bathroom is very contemporary then stick with blinds.......

  • Venetian
  • Roller
  • Vertical
These will look right and do the job properly. My favorite is the chrome venetian.

If you bathroom is more traditional Then you can safely go with bathroom curtains. I would reccomend unlined curtains Also don't go with a heavy cotton fabric, it will just soak up the moisture from the bathroom and look terrible. Bathroom curtains made of man made fibers are the best.

Unlined man made fiber bathroom curtains are easier to launder and will dry out a lot quicker when they do get splashed or damp. So style is important, but get the right stuff for the job.

If your window is over the bath and/or shower. Then for practical reasons forget bathroom curtains. Just pick a moisture resistant blind. Rollers and verticals can be bought with fabrics suitable for bathrooms. If in direct contact with water (next to the shower) then pick a pvc fabric, 100% waterproof.

What kind of shower curtain?

You can have 3 kinds of shower curtains

  • Shower curtains made from curtain fabrics
  • Shower curtains made from polyester
  • Shower curtains made from pvc
Shower curtains made from curtain fabric will need a liner curtain made from pvc. These can work really well in a traditional bathroom. Co ordinate your bathroom curtains with your shower curtains.

Shower curtains made from polyester are softer than the pvc ones. So tend to hang a little better. The only minor draw back is they are not completely water proof. So don't use them if in direct contact with the water from the shower head. Also don't use them as a liner for fabric curtains.

Shower curtains made from pvc are completely water proof and can be used as a liner or on their own. Great for the bathroom if you have kids that play in the bath or shower.

Pulling the whole theme together

So finally we have to decide on the finishing touches.

  • Curtain rod
  • Shower rod
  • Towel Rail

All of the above should be done in the same...all in wood or all in metal. If your bathroom has chrome fittings then keep with it for all the rods.

If you have brass fittings them you could go with brass rods all round. Or maybe wooden rods would go just as well especially if you have a wood floor.

Last on the list of accessories is towels and bathmat. Get the color right and these can give the room that finishing touch. My advice would be to keep it white or pick a secondary color that tones but does not compete with the main theme.
