Want some great "Tips" on how to fix your ceiling curtain track so it doesn't come crashing down when you hang your curtains!

So you want to fix your ceiling curtain track securely.Your first job before anything else is to try and work out "what your ceiling is made of..."

Fresh new plasterboard great Old lath and plaster not so good Sheet plywood fantastic (like winning the lottery). All these will usually be skimmed over with finishing plaster and painted.

So how do you know what your ceilings made of, good question. The easy way is to simply drill a hole and see. You can always fill the hole if it's in the wrong place.

A good material to fix your ceiling track plasterboard ceiling your drill bit will cut through it nice and easy. Creating a nice clean hole with only a small amount of dust.

I reccomend using metal redi drivers to fix your curtain track brackets. They consist of a metal plug with a screw tread. You place the tip into the pre drilled hole and simply screw into the plasterboard ceiling.

This kind of fixing comes with a matching screw. You place this through the hole in the curtain track bracket. Then screw into the plug you have already screwed into the ceiling. This gives a good solid fixing that should support all but the heaviest curtains.

Oh dear getting you ceiling track to fix well is going to take a bit more work

Lath and plaster ceiling your drill bit will cut through this in 2 ways if you go between the lath slats your drill bit will make a hole easily with a fair amount of dust. If your drill bit hits the lath slat it will stop moving for a moment. If this happens I reccomend you stop and don't drill any further. Rather than plug the hole I would fix your ceiling curtain track bracket by placing your screw through the bracket hole. Then drive your screw directly into the lath slat (made of timber).

If you drill between the lath slats (can't do this on purpose just luck of the draw). Then I reccomend you use toggle bolts to secure your ceiling curtain track bracket.

These are long slim bolts usually with slot head for use with a flat screwdriver. on the tread end you have 2 spring loaded arms which stick out to the sides of the bolt. You need to unscrew the arms of the end of the bolt firstly. Then put the bolt through the hole in the ceiling curtain track bracket. Then re screw the arms back onto the top of the bolt just a few turns of the thread.

Then you will need to push the tip of the bolt into the pre drilled hole (if not big enough drill a little bigger). As you push the bolt in it causes the spring loaded arms to fold down. This allows the arms to disappear into the ceiling. Once the bolt is pushed all the way into the ceiling the arms on the bolt will pop back open an right angles to the bolt (look into the hole and turn the bolt so the arms lye across the lath slats and not just on the plaster).

The next step is to pull you curtain track bracket downwards. This forces the arms on the bolt to bed themselves into the inside of the ceiling. Now while pulling the bracket down with a little pressure tighten the screw. This will cause the bracket to tighten up against the ceiling.

Got this kind of ceiling ?

You've won the lottery, fixing your ceiling curtain track is easy peasy.

Sheet plywood You will need to use a small drill bit to pilot a hole through the plaster (prevents plaster from cracking). Then simply put your screw through the hole in your ceiling curtain track bracket. Then screw directly into the piloted hole in your ceiling.
