Hanging panels window treatments over an arched window

I have an arched window in my sons bedroom. The window from top to bottom is 91inches. Is it too tall to do a straight panel hung from the very top without sheering it on a rod. I wonder if I can use tie backs and just pull them back during the day. Any thoughts.

I have done it the way you suggest a few times over the years. It will obviously take a little light off the room.

What I suggest is you fit the tiebacks a little higher than normal. This will help to pull more of the curtains off the window.
