How can I fit curtains to inward opening French doors?
by Jane Jones

I have bought a brand new apartment which has inward opening French doors to a Juliette balcony in the sitting room. There is about 1 inch of space between the top of the doors and the ceiling to which a curtain rail and curtains are fitted.
It is a recessed dormer area and the design is such that no space has been allowed for the curtains to be pulled back each side beyond the doors and so that when the doors are opened the curtains are immediately pulled of the rail.
I have investigated several ways of solving this problem but cannot find a very satisfactory solution.
Can you help please?
Hi Jane
I know exactly the kind of windows you mean. I have fitted many show apartments just like this.
The only practical way is to fit roman blinds to the top of the doors on your french window. I know it's not curtains, but you get to use curtain fabrics. Even if the doors are made of metal as many of this type are. You can still pilot fixing holes with a small metal drill bit.
your romans would then move with the doors. They may still stop you opening the doors fully but should be a lot better than the curtains you have at the moment.
I hope you can get your head around roman blinds instead of curtains.
Best Regards
Lee
