How do I cover disproportioned windows on either side of a (non-magnetic) metal door

by Dom

Hi,
We have an unusual situation and would like help figuring out what type of window treatments would work for this configuration. (Picture included).
There is a long window on the left that is against the wall, a door in the middle, and a half-length window on the right with an cooling and heating unit underneath it.
With the unit underneath the window, full length curtains are not suitable. We would also like to maintain privacy at night, but allow light in during the day.
This is a rental apartment and we would like to keep the cost low and the treatment temporary.
Any help or thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Dom

The architects need shooting sometimes. What were they thinking. Not only the heater/cooler unit under the window.(before anyone says it, I know its technically the right place to fit one)

Also you have an inward opening door which complicates things even further. Sorry for my little rant I had to get that of my chest.

Right to your question The simplest lowest cost most practical solution is to fit vertical blinds above the windows.

The first one on the left would be to the floor. Then the width would be from the wall on the left across to the heater unit. This would have the controls on the left and stack back open to the left.

Then the second blind would sit at the same height and come down to the heater unit. This would have the controls on the right and stack back open to the right.

The reason I recommend vertical blinds is that they are reasonably cheap. They are very practical to live with and give total privacy. Fixing the brackets over the windows means that when you move. You can simply fill the holes. Alternatively you could either leave them or try and sell them to the next tenant.

I know a lot of people don't like vertical blinds but in this case I think they are the perfect solution.

If you want to get some prices on verticals then take a look here Vertical blinds

Best regards
