How do I hang a swagged bed canopy under a sloped ceiling?

by Lori
(California)

I want to do a tent like swagged canopy over my bed but it is underneath a sloped attic ceiling. Do you have any advice on how to hang the drape directly over the bed?

The ceiling slants away from the head of the bed at approx. 45 degrees towards the foot of the bed. I'd like to have the drapes coming down each side tent-like to the floor to give it more the look of a daybed.

I hope this was not too confusing. Thank you in advance for your time and any help you may be able to provide. LC

Hi Lori

I think I understand what you are saying. If it was me doing this I would use one of those bed canopies that hangs from the ceiling on hooks. These have a loop on each corner to hang from 4 hooks.

So what you would need to do is use the loops provided for the headboard end. Then at the foot of the bed where the ceiling is a lot higher. You will need to use some grosgrain ribbon. tie one end of the ribbon to the loop on each corner.

Then before you cut the ribbon hold the canopy up to the required height. Then allow a little extra to create a new loop. Then cut off the surplus ribbon.

Now your bed canopy will hang level with the floor. You will be able to find a ribbon that matches with the color of your canopy no problem. There are thousands to choose from on ebay. I have put a link to the ribbons below. I have also put a link to the kind of bed canopies I have talked about and think you mean.

P.S. There are many ways to decorate the ribbon and the ceiling hooks if you think it needs it. The link here shows some stuff that you may like to add. Grosgrain ribbon bows

Dear Lee,

I thank you for your detailed response and this is a very good suggestion and although not exactly what I had in mind, an idea I may resort to as it would be much easier than a curtain rod or a wire assembly. Thanks again for your time and consideration.

Best regards, Lori

Hi Lori

Just a though you could suspend a light curtain rod from the 2 ribbons at the end of the bed. Then spend a curtain rod from the 2 hooks at the head of the bed.

That would allow you to drape a panel over each end and span in between.

Regards

Lee

P.S. Thee possibilities are endless :-)
