HOW FAR ABOVE WINDOW DO I PLACE A PELMET BOARD WITH VALANCE

MAKING A SWAG AND TRUMPET VALANCE ATTACHED TO A PELMET BOARD. THE BOARD IS GOING TO BE 102 INCHES.MY WALL IS 8 FEET FROM CEILING TO FLOOR .WITH A 3 INCH CROWN MOULDING. THERE IS 13 INCHES FROM TOP OF WINDOW TO BOTTOM OF CROWN MOULDING. HOW FAR ABOVE WINDOW DO I PLACE THE PELMET?
ALSO HOW LONG DO I MAKE THE TRUMPET HORN AND SWAG? AND HOW FAR BELOW THE WINDOW FRAME SHOULD THE TRUMPET HORN BE?

I would make your swags about 17 inches deep. Then hang them from a pelmet board fitted 12 inches over the top of your window.

This will mean your swags hang deep enough over your window but not too deep. This will fill the space over your window well.

As for your trunpet horns I would make them around 13 inches deep if your swags are going to be 17 inches deep. In my opinion swags shallower than this just don't look as good.

PELMET HELP

I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE BEEN SEARCHING THE WEB FOR MONTHS FOR A SITE JUST LIKE THIS. THERE IS NO ONE LOCALLY THAT CAN GIVE ME ADVISE.
ON MY QUESTION I AM A LITTLE CONFUSE AS TO WHERE THE PELMET BOARD SHOULD BE PLACE. ARE YOU SAYING IT SHOULD BE 12" ABOVE WINDOW FRAME. AND AS FOR TUMPET HORNS AND SWAG IF I DESIRE CAN I MAKE 1" LONGER. OR IS 13" FOR TRUMPET HORN AND 17" THE THUMB RULE.
AGAIN CAN'T WAIT TO GO THRU YOUR SITE ON Q & A.

Yes I am saying fit the pelmet board 12 inches over your window. That is if your swags made up are going to be 17 inch deep when fitted. This way they will only fall over your window by 5 inches.

You could have swags a little deeper if you like. The only thing you need to think about is if it would block too much light through the window.

All the dimension I have said here are only guides you can play around a little with them. Most swag and trumpets are made from paper templates so if your swag is going to be between say 16 and 18 inches deep when made then 12 inches over your window for fitting would be just fine.

The only other time I would have swags deeper over the glass area of a window is when you have a very high window 10ft or more. This would then look right in proportion to the height of the window.
