How to fit voiles on a conservatory roof.

by LORRAINE
(COVENTRY)

I want to have voiles fit inside my conservatory roof, ie heavy gathering at the top in the middle spreading out on the roof. I have no idea how to go about it though. Can you help?

Hi Lorraine

The way I have done this job in the past is to create a panel. then sew a pocket on both ends. Then thread a wooden rod through the pocket on each end. The rods on each end would be the size of the glass panel your trying to cover. A long rod at the bottom and a short rod at the centre. Finally I screw in large cup hooks into the rod through the voile fabric.

I then put cup hooks into the conservatory roof frame where I want the panel to start and finish. Then hook the panel at one end then hook the panel at the other end.

That is an overly simple description of how it's done. In reality you could end up with too much fabric trying to gather in the centre of your conservatory roof. So you may have to taper the sides of your panels as to reduce the bulk of fabric your trying to squeeze into the centre.

There are also different ways to fix the fabric that meets in the center of your conservatory but without seeing it's difficult to say how it would work exactly on yours.

Hope that gives some idea on how to get started. I would use some scrap fabric to create your first panel. Then fit it and see how it goes. It will give you a better idea on how it works.

Best regards

Lee

Thank you for your reply. It's given me some ideas. I've also thought of using clear acrylic rod 15mm and fixing this to the conservatory roof with 15mm self adhesive pipe clips, and attaching the voile on curtain rings with clips so I can draw the voiles back in the day - they're going to be black you see. I'm just stuck on the curved bit. Can't seem to be able to find a curved bit of acrylic. So we are working along the same lines. Thank you.

Hi Again Lorraine

If you have the voile under tension remember it will probably bend the acrylic poles. If not under tension then be prepared for the voile panels to sag a certain amount.

Best of luck and if it all turns out well them send me a photo. Your a bit of a pioneer not many people take on conservatory roofs.

Lee
