How to hang buckram header curtains

by Sheelagh

I have fairly heavy short bedroom curtains with French pleats. It is on a plastic rail with cords and nothing runs without getting stuck.

The pin in the buckram is at the base of the v and the heading drops forward and so the curtains look puckered. Sould I move the pin higher up? or should I use a thin metal pole as there is not much space below the ceiling.

My sitting room curtains are very heavy and where the
curtains are meant to overlap, the u shaped metalpiece has got pulled
down. What to do?!!.

The bedroom curtains I have in 3 bedrooms.

Hi Sheelagh

I will try to answer your questions in order. So here goes with the first your plastic curtain track getting stuck.

you should try giving the track a spray with silicone. you can buy this most hardware stores. It usually cures most problems with poor running tracks and rods.

your next question as to where is best to put the pin hooks in your buckram header.

The best place is usually towards the top. The best curtain hardware to hang these kind of curtains is a rod or pole. You then put your hooks in so that the top sits a cm or half inch down.

This means when they are hanging from the rings on your rod. They sit just under with the flat spaces between the pleats fold back under the rod. This is the most ideal way for the curtains to work and look their best.

You say there is not very much room over your window. I would pick a rod with small end finials. This will allow you to fix your rod almost up to the ceiling.

Finally to your final question your heavy sitting room curtains.

The tracks you are using at the moment are probably not up to the job. It is common for the overlap arms on these kind of tracks to give up under the weight of the curtains. There is very little you can do to stop it.

Even if you effect a repair it will go again very quickly. Again the answer is to change your curtain hardware. Fit substantial curtain rods/poles. Move the pin hooks closer to the top of the buckram header. Then rehang under the curtain rod.

This will make your curtains hang so much better and they will work more efficiently. Also don't put a pin hook in the leading edges of your curtains. This will allow them to overlap far better.

If you use corded curtain tracks to save touching the curtains. Then Why not try new curtain rods/poles. Then fit curtain draw rods to the leading curtain rings. These allow you to open and close your curtains just as well without touching them.

Good luck with your curtains :-)
