Is there is a correct way

I have a front window and a side window that are different heights from the ceiling, one is 10" and one is 15".

I don't want to have a pelmet and I wonder should the poles be the same height from the same ceiling or should the poles be the same height from the top edge of the windows?

If I do them the same height from the ceiling then they would look neater, but would it be odd to have a larger gap above the smaller window top edge and the pole?

There is no absolutely right or wrong way to do this. You are right though that both poles at the same height would look a lot better. even though one would sit higher over the window. The difference is no so great that it would look stupid.
