Is there such a thing as a traverse rod that opens separately from both sides?

by Pamela McNab

I have a large glass patio door that slides open on the right. Now I have draperies covering it on a traverse rod that opens from the center. But in the summer I'd like to open the right side to go out the door but keep the left side drape closed to keep out the sun.

I've been searching for a traverse rod that can be opened separately from both the right and the left and can't find it. I only find traverse rods that open from the center or pull from the left or the right. The solution of having the drapes pull all one way is that they bunch up too much. Do I have to install two separate traverse rods - one on the right and one on the left - to achieve this effect or is there such a thing as a traverse rod that opens separately from both sides?

Hi Pamela.

Your right you can't buy a ready made traverse rod that works each side independantly.

You would need to put 2 rods together to get what you want. I have seen some on ebay thet would look neat meeting in the middle.

If your interested then take a look here at New Traverse Rod Kit 66-120" One-way draw,.

You can get customade corded curtain rods that will do what you want. The only problem is the cost. They are a lot more but many people think it's worth the extra cost. If your interested then ask your local custom made curtain store.

Best regards

Lee
