Make your window look like real pro did it....I will show you how to make pelmets so good, NO ONE will believe you made them.

To Make pelmets like a real upholsterer is split into 3 parts.

Want to see how someone else got on making a bay pelmet following my guide Click here then come back and read this page a couple of times. Then print it out for easy reference.

1.The Fabric and lining, also padding.

2.The face and side boards.

3.The top board.

Sorting out your fabric

The fabric, plain fabric is good to use. Because if your window is wider than the fabric, you run your fabric sideways (also known as railroading).

This allows you to make your pelmet as wide as you want without having to join the fabric.

Face and side boards !

Next you have the face and return boards. I make mine out of 6mm thick plywood. Your local DIY store will probably cut this to size for you. Well worth any extra cost to get nice square cuts.

The all important top boards !

Finally the top board, just a timber board 20cm deep X 18mm thick X as long as you need. The timber comes as standard in these sizes just cut to the right length.Bear in mind your top board should be 1cm shorter than you main face board.

Tools for the job

  • Tape measure.
  • Sharp pair scissors
  • Pencil or chalk to mark fabric.
  • Staple gun and 6mm staples.

Fabrics required

Your curtain fabric and lining fabric. Some 8oz polyester sheet wadding (my favorite) or alternatively some heavy interlining.

"There you have it nice and easy. Just take your time and enjoy yourself. Before long you will have got the hang of it."
