Making lined curtains, the style here is the "bagged out" kind. Partly made inside out. Then turned out the right way. Hence the name.

Your first step to making lined curtains

is to hem curtain and lining fabric. Then lay your curtain fabric face up onto the table.

Curtain hem should be about 10cm deep. Lining hem should be about 5cm deep.

Then comes your curtain lining !

lay your lining fabric face down on top of your curtain fabric. Trim down your curtain lining so it is 10cm narrower than your curtain fabric. Then line up the fabric and lining on one side and pin.

Then pull the other side of your lining over to the other edge of your curtain fabric and pin.

The example below is made using one width of fabric. Just to keep things nice and simple. If your window is wider than about 140cm. Then you will need to join several widths of fabric together to make each curtain. Same for your lining. Working out how many widths to use check out the fabric requirement page

Now some sewing to do.

Next sew down both sides

of your fabric allowing about 1cm. Then turn out your fabric so the right sides are showing on the outside.

Then lay back on to your table.

Making sure everything is nice and flat. your lining fabric should be face up. Your curtain fabric will show 2 or 3 cm down each side. make sure your have an even amount on both sides.

How long is your curtain ?

The next job is to pin over the top of your curtain at the right length ready for the curtain tape.Make sure your hem is nice and straight by using the edge of the table as a guide. You can also hook your tape measure over the end of the table and measure up your curtain to the right length.

Once pinned over trim of any surplus fabric over 10cm.

Nearly finished just the curtain header tape to go !

Then finally to finish your curtain

sew on your curtain tape first tuck under a few cm's then sew the top line first. Then the bottom line. Remember when reaching the far end allow a few cm's more tape to tuck under again.

There you have your finished making lined curtains. Go on have a try yourself. Practice with some cheap fabric. Even if they don't turn out perfect you will have had some fun and learned a lot.
