How to dress scarf window treatments
Dressing scarf window treatments
Joanne I want to hang a voile swag over my bathroom window, I have the scarf rings but don't know how to hang the voile using the rings properly, please help. Hi Joanne You need to fix the scarf rings about 5 inches over the window and about 2 inches wider than the window width. This will allow for the scarf swag to sit deep enough over the window without covering it.Also by not setting the scarf rings to wide on the window it allows the side fabric to fall along the edges of your window. Once your scarf rings are fitted you need to measure the distance between them then the distance from the scarf ring down to as far as you want the scarf to go. Add across and the 2 sides and this gives you the total length for your scarf. You can just use a rectangular piece of hemmed fabric (1 width wide). Or you can taper the ends, but I find this not necessary. I have a page on hanging a scarf swag which will help you it shows it hanging on rod but just pull each end of your scarf through therings and dress the same way. Large dramatic scarf swag Amy My window which you see directly as you enter the room is 77 inches wide. My apt size sofa is directly under it. Beside thewindow on both sides is 20 inches of wall. Also under the windowis a radiator. I already have 4 inch silhouette blinds but want to add some drama to the focal wall. Problem looks like the centerwill be shorter than the sides. Any creative suggestions. I foundan Indian silk and linen fabric which I love but don't know how to design the window treatment. Your help is appreciated. Hi Amy There are lots of things you can do with this kind of window. You are right about the window treatment being shorter in the middle because of the radiator and the sofa. I would be tempted to fix a decorative wooden rod over the window. Then use the Indian silk to make a large scarf window treatments with the side tails falling all the way to the floor (maybe ever draping a little). This will give a really dramatic look. Then I would use the linen to make a pair of simple pencil pleat curtains. These I would hang on a simple discreet curtain track which I would fit directly under the wooden rod. You won't see the track as the scarf swag will cover it. This should show of the Indian silk to its best.
