Sloped ceiling

We are trying to decorate our nursery but are having problems with how to hang the curtains. The ceiling slopes from just below the picture rail which is about 2 inches from the top of the window.

I want to hang the curtains with the minimum of a gap at the top as it seems pointless to have them blackout lined to then have a huge gap at the top. Any suggestions would be welcome, thank you in advance

Hi Amy

What iwould do in this situation is to fit a top board. You would use this to fit the curtains and a valance or pelmet.

You would need to fit a 5 inch X 6 inch shelf bracket on each side to the wall. Fix 1 inch down from where the ceiling starts. This is to allow your top board (piece of timber 5 inch X 1 inch) to fit on top like a shelf. The board needs to be 5 or 6 inches wider than the window each side.

You then fix your curtain track to the underside of the top board. Then hang your curtains from this.

You then disguise the top board by fitting your valance. If using a gathered valance then staple to the leading edge between the pleats. Once dress you will not see them.

This is the only way to dress this window successfully. If you are interested in making a pelmet rather than using a valance then take a look at this page.

Make pelmets
