I think you would struggle with these kind of curtains. Firstly they won't be the right shape so will need remaking. Also the cords and the eyelets which are use to make them open and close will also be in the wrong place. Lastly if made of voile fabric you would not get the blackout you want.
You could ask a local curtain maker to make some out of your choice of fabric to fit your window. Even when pulled open they will still cover a large part of the window.

I've just been looking at some voile curtains with italien stringing....not sure what that is exactly but could that method be adapted for what I need?
