Solution needed for triangle window
by Sue
(Sussex)
I have a triangle shaped window ie with 2 sloping sides - approx 2950mm long by 1050mm at the highest point. I don't really want to have vertical blinds that meet in the middle as I have a great view that I don't want spoilt! The room is for a child so the curtains need to be blackout if possible. I had a quote for blinds that came in 4 sections which was great but the cost was £1000....way past our budget! Please help.
Hi sue
You have a real tricky window there. I have only dealt with a window like yours once before. I fitted 2 floor mounted blackout roller blinds and they pulled up and had an eyelet in the top corner which sat on a hook. It worked to a certain degree but there was still a lot of light coming in around the edges. The blinds them selves were shaped to fit the window.
Having done this once i would not recommend this solution again. So to what you can do with your triangular window. I would make folding hinged screens with 3 or 4 panels. I would make 2 of these screens one for each side to meet in the middle.
You would need to allow for them to zig zag a little if they were to be free standing. Or you could have some way of clipping them up against the window frame to hold them in place.
This may sound a bit of a strange way to cover a window, but will give you a lot more light blockage. Also you could cover the screens in a children's fabric or paint them to suit.
During the day you would simply fold them up and move them away form the window.
Another twist on the same theme would be loose the hinges and have them as individual panels that clip in place one by one. This kind of flush fit panel system would give the best light blocking properties as well.
If this idea appeals to and you have reasonable diy skills then have a go your self or get a joiner to give you a quote.
I hope you like the idea, or maybe you think I am mad.
Best regards
