What is wrong with my eyelet curtains?

Hi there, I came across your site and was wondering if you could help me. I bought a pair of faux suede un-lined eyelet curtains for my living room. A friend of mine has a pair in her living room and I liked the clean sleek look it gave her...like those you see in showrooms and magazines and I decided to do the same.

Unfortunately, the clean sleek contemporary look I was aiming for is not happening with my curtains. They are very long (46" x 90") and I can't seem to make it fall straight and clean! It balloons up towards the middle of the drop. I've tried ironing it but that didn't help. Should I iron it as I want it folded to create some creases on purpose? Please help!

I would upload a pic but i dont have one at the moment at work.

Hi Reeta

I think I know what the problem with your faux Suede eyelet curtains is all about. It's a very springy fabric and does not fall into its pleats naturally.

So the answer to your little problem is to tie your pleats into place with bands. I have put a picture below of some I had to do the same thing with.

In the picture I have used 3 strips of plastic to wrap round the pleated curtain. Then simply tied them in place. One near the top one in the middle and one near the bottom. Don't tie too tight, just enough to hold the pleats together.

Then I would reccomend you leave them like that for a week. Then take the bands off and see how they hang. If not perfect then put them back on for a few more days. This kind of fabric can be stubborn but will sort it's self out eventually.

Good luck with your curtain dressing.

Best Regards

Lee
