What width curtains do I need ?

by Lesley perry

please help. my window track is nine feet in length. What width curtain would you recommend I use?

Many thanks,

Lesley

Hi Lesley

Glad you asked that question. Most people would just go and buy the widest ready made curtains. They are usually around 90 inches wide. This would be a mistake as you would hardly any gather in your header tape.

The rule of thumb for working out your curtain width. Is the length of your track or rod is equal to each curtain before you gather the header tape.

So you would need approx a pair of curtains at 108 inches wide. So when gathered they would meet in the middle.

You will struggle to get a ready made pair at this width. If you do find some they will probably not be in the colour or design of your choice. The only thing to do is make some yourself or get someont to do it for you.

If you fancy a go take a look at this page.
