Window Treatment Idea(s)

Front Window Of House
This window is a center picture window with a double hung window flanking each side. I have tried curtains and I have tried blinds as you see in the photo.
It is a west facing house and this is the houses' front window. We get the afternoon to sunset sun and it gets DANG hot in the living room. Though it is the living room it is used often.
I am preparing to paint the room a creamy brown(Looks like coffee with creamer). The room measures 14 X 11, the entry door is off to the right of the window in the picture, my furniture is cream/burgandy/dusty blue.
I need so much help. I stink at decorating. My style is ecletic. I am sorry if this is too much but I figure more is better in this case. Thank you so much for any and all ideas!
Hi Amy
To start with lets look at taking a little heat off the room. The first thing I can think of is Solar shades . you can see some on Ebay here. They will let in light but help to keep the temperature down a little.
The other option is to hang Thermal curtains again you can see some on Ebay here. These will keep the heat down if closed during the day. Obviously the draw back is a dark room.
Both of the above will only help if you have good ventilation and probably a fan or two on the go as well. I'm sure you have thought about it but I'll say it anyway. What about a Portable air conditioner you can use it and move it as you want. The only downside is the increase in the electric bill.
Now on to the color scheme for your window treatments. If your walls are to be cream then I would not pick cream as a first choice for the curtains. I would probably go with which ever is the most dominant color in your furniture. So it's either the burgundy or the dusty blue.
I have a friend called Renate over at Dream Home Decorating. She will show you how to pick colors far better than I can. Also she has a lot of info on decorating styles. Her site is well worth a look.
Best regards
Lee
