window treatment in living room (townhouse)
by Cathy
Hi,
My house has the typical townhouse look, where once you come up the stairs you can openly see the living/dining room areas. And the deck sliding door is right beside the dining room table. The color scheme in the room is chocolate and cream.
I am trying to decide what's the best window treatment for 2 windows in the living room area. The windows are side by side, but not the same measurements. This has been a challenge for me. One window measures approx. 31 X 71 and the other 65 X 71. In researching what window treatments I could use I narrowed my selections down to roman shades or rods with curtains/panels. I tried the roman shades in the windows and unfortunately, I did'nt like the look and they did'nt function easily.
My question is do you think the rods/panels would look nice on the smaller window? Or should I just consider a totally different window treatment for the room. My husband likes wood blinds, but I'm not sure if that's the right look for the living room. I want the light to filter in and the room to have a relaxing/stylish feel to complement our contemporary style.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Cathy
Well you could do a lot of things with these windows. As you suggested a rod over each window. How about putting a single curtain on each rod. Obviously a wider curtain and a narrow one.
You don't say how far apart they are. If not too far apart then you could span the rod right across both windows and have an even width pair of curtains. They would meet at the center of your curtain rod.
You could as your husband says use blinds of one kind or another. It all comes down to the general theme you are trying to create in the room.
Curtains create a softer more comfortable look and blinds give you a cleaner neat look for a more minimalistic feel.
Maybe if you attach a picture of the windows I could come up with an idea or two if you are still stuck for ideas.
